3D Novelty Cakes

There once was a time when cake making was simple and straight forward…well not anymore! The rise in popularity for 3D Novelty Cakes has been nothing short of astonishing.

Television programs like Cake Boss have helped drive the interest in having a three dimensional cake created for almost any celebration you can imagine.

Other 3D cake makers have turned cake making into nothing short of art form, its more like sculpture really and competitions like the one run by the T-Shirt company Threadless takes it to a whole new level.

Here at Ickletweats I am getting asked more often now to design and make these great cake creations and have had a chance to make some really cool ”likeness 3D cakes’.

Reality 3D Novelty Cakes

Imagine a typical family scenario. Your husband or boyfriend is sitting watching TV. In his dressing gown, sat on his favourite chair, wearing his ‘Homer Simpson’ slippers and playing FIFA on his Xbox.  The chair is sat on a carpet that covers a laminate wooden floor and he is really comfortable nestled against his best cushions.

How about if I create exactly that scene in a 3D cake? Well that’s what I did and the photos are here for you to see. Take a look at the comparison with the real thing, I was supplied the photos and I used them to get as close as I could to the actual scene.

Judge for yourself if I did a good enough job!

The entire birthday cake is edible right down to the ‘Homer’ slippers and everything you see was hand crafted and decorated. I named the cake ‘The Gamer’

three-dimensional-cake-manchesterTo ensure I could get this level of detail into the cake I needed photos showing the scene I was to copy. These were duly supplied and here is a selection so you can see how it matches up.

The image below shows the patterned rug and floor detail.

This next shot shows the gamer playing FIFA on his Xbox. Note the carpet and floor!

Here is an image showing the upholstery that I needed to copy along with the very important cushions which also needed to replicate the leaf detail.

So if you would like a ‘3D Reality Cake’ based on a scene or event that is dear to you let me know and we can see what is possible.

Good morning! I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine, it's making it very bright (and a little hot) in my kitchen....and it's a very busy week here too! Lots of lovely cakes and goodies to be made, and somehow keep cool while doing it! I'm considering the option of installing a paddling pool in the kitchen that I can stand in while working 🤔😂 How is everyone else staying cool this week? ...

Thank you to Gemma and David for allowing and trusting me to make this cake for their special day. The bride and groom are caricatures of the happy couple, dressed in their wedding attire. The little flower girl is their beautiful daughter. Everything is handmade and completely edible. For sake of scale, the tier sizes are 12", 10", 8" and 6" and the whole thing stands more than 16" high (and it weighed a fair bit too!) I loved making this one! ...
